kerrang! magazine this week features both a news item and a review of our 65daysofstatic road movie. we would post the review, but we don’t believe in spoiling things for people. see the movie first, form your own opinions and then see if you like what they have to say. in the meantime here’s their rad little news update on the subject:

we’re stoked to receive the news that our site for the house of jackie brown just entered in at number 5 in the design charts. a huge & long overdue thank you to all involved in the creation of this site. it’s been a while since we were in the charts & it’s not something we’re about to take for granted.

the initial web presence for the beautiful and thought provoking film that will be HERE, is now live. braden king, the director, has been working closely with us as we hammer out & develop an informative online source for everything about his new film. stay tuned for more developments at this location as we close in on the film’s production schedule and begin to unravel more parts of the production.

we are extremely proud to be able to announce the forthcoming release of a long-term project of ours. since june 2008 we’ve been working in close collaboration with 65daysofstatic on a piece that captures what it’s like to experience their live show. 65DAYSOFSTATIC – ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is a double disc set. it’s out on april 20th & you can view a trailer for it here:
we produced, directed & shot the second half of the set – a 75 minute film recording life on the road with 65, whilst they toured europe & north america with the cure.
our first experience of the work of the designers republic was through the stunning record sleeve artwork of pop will eat itself back in the mid-nineties. since then they’ve continued to produce nail-bitingly original work for the likes of warp records, the wipeout video game series & nine inch nails. however equally important is their attitude toward the world of commercial design and the background from which they come. it’s for all these reasons combined that they remain one of the very few design outfits that we here at (v) take seriously at all.
so it’s no great surprise then that we were greatly saddened to hear of their recent demise (though rumour has it they will be rising again!).
please read the following article recently dusted off by the smart fellows at creative review. it’s from 2001 and gives you a very good idea of why these guys should probably be taken more seriously than just about anyone else out there:
our website for the environmentally conscious construnction firm, copperleaf, went live today. needless to say, more companies like this need to exist.
