long-standing collaborator tim sutton asked us to take care of the posters and titles for his fifth feature film, funny face. the process with tim is always very fluid and open-ended. he brought some ideas to the table and we augmented those ideas. the poster you see here is one of a series we developed for the film.
in this case tim suggested using a caravaggio painting and we took it from there. caspar's father
thomas newbolt then suggested we use caravaggio's painting of
salome with the head of john the baptist. tim agreed and sent the funny face mask used in the film to caspar in europe. caspar then lit the mask with similar lighting to the caravaggio painting and photographed it. the rest of the work from there on out is self-evident.
