writer / director lucy knox reached out to us after seeing our work on family portrait, a want in her and pasta negra. lucy wanted a poster for her new short film, eighteen. the film is a documentary piece that follows a group of australian 18 year olds as they discuss their lives and their feelings about the future. we were moved by the work and interested to see how it could translate into a poster.

lucy explained the different ways she sees the work and what she believes it's about. caspar then sent her a series of treatments to illustrate the directions a poster could take. lucy chose the one you see here, which caspar made entirely digitally. the design was constructed using the 2025 instagram profile grid's 3:4 aspect ratio as a fundamental building block.

the poster explores how much these kids see themselves through the lens of their own phones and online networks. it speaks to a subsequent insecurity in their own self image and how important that image is versus who they are as people. the poster is also a conscious nod to the work of samuel burgess-johnson and david rudnick, whose work caspar was studying at this time.
