poster for the feature documentary, a want in her.

director myrid carten reached out after seeing our work on carol nguyen's no crying at the dinner table. myrid had just completed work on her first feature film, a want in her, and wondered if we might make a poster for it. the film is a documentary about myrid's relationship with her mother and her mother's struggle with alcoholism and madness. it hits hard and we were keen to work on it. 

after some discussion about how myrid wanted to communciate with people about her film, we presented a range of ideas for a poster. myrid chose the direction you see here, citing also particular painting styles that resonated with her. caspar then painted 24 portraits of myrid's mother, nuala, with acrylic paint, and presented the 9 best ones to myrid. together they then arranged the portraits in an order that suitably echoed the film's narrative. as a final touch myrid asked that we christen the poster by pouring a bottle of cider – her mother's chosen drink – all over it.

during the making of the poster the film was selected for IDFA. if you're headed to the festival, the film is well worth your time.
