giles and caspar have been casually working on a new, v2 website for the artist thomas newbolt for some time now. a few years back a beta version of the site was launched, and now after plenty of idle tinkering the site feels like it's as complete as it will ever be.

an exercise in minimalism, compatibility and search engine optimization, the site functions simply and intuitively on mobile and desktop. furthermore it provides access to as near a complete works by the painter as there has yet been available.

the site would be nothing of course without the incredible fine art photography of the ipswich-based, douglas atfield. doug has visited thomas's studio on regular occasions and lit, photographed and elegantly cropped almost every single one of thomas's works to date.

footage manipulation for the new york-based artist, wells watson.
_how
artist wells watson asked that we might use some of the gear in our london studio to degrade and distort the footage and the audio from a film he had written and directed. he wanted to use the results as part of a forthcoming solo show of his work.

after a long chat with wells, caspar and josiah newbolt agreed to run the film footage through various plugins, circuit bent machines and output the results through a series of vintage monitors. these monitors would then be digitally filmed, the footage imported, and the imagery then processed further in the computer before export.

josiah took care of this and then took the film's audio and ran that through his collection of analog synthesizers to tonally match the film's sound to the reworked imagery. wells and josiah then fine tuned everything to wells's satisfaction. results of the work you can see here and here, and on wells's website.

the artist and filmmaker wells watson reached out to us again and asked that we make an invitation for an upcoming open studio he was hosting in manhattan, new york. he sent us photographs of a recent piece of his that was being removed from plastic and hung on the wall in preparation for the event. he said he'd like the invitation details to be placed inside the piece's metal "stretcher", as if the drawn back painted canvas were revealing these details. otherwise he left the rest up to us.

caspar turned the whole thing into a poster, using dirt, dust and paint marks as a way to speak further not only about the movement depicted in wells's piece, but also the dragging around of things one does in preparation for an open studio.
