_what
poster for the feature film, the swallow.
_how
writer / director tadhg o'sullivan asked that we might make a poster for his debut narrative feature film, the swallow, starring brenda fricker. it had just been selected for both the telluride and dublin international film festivals. the film is a beautifully considered, shot and paced piece about an irish painter living alone and writing unsendable letters to her lost love. in beautifully composed passages of text she discusses art, it's meaning and her purpose in life. all the while tadhg juxtaposes her movements around her house and the surrounding lands with paintings by courbet, millet and so on.

caspar presented a range of ideas to tadhg, and then they met in berlin to discuss them. tadhg ultimately went with the approach you see here, utilizing a postcard of jean-françois millet's, the gleaners. the poster was made with a printer, scanner and some paper card torn out of a decrepit 1962 french book of touen houang chinese wall paintings.
