_how
midnight marauder put us in touch with writer / director sam fayed. sam was completing work on a new short film, and wanted us to create a poster and titles for it. we loved the film and leapt at the chance.

the film follows an idealistic film director as he clashes on set with his volatile star over how the mythological character of hercules should be portrayed. their creative disagreement quickly becomes a battle for control. as tensions erupt. both men are forced to question what strength, power and virtue truly mean. inspired by real experiences behind the scenes of a hollywood production, the film explores what happens when artistic ideals collide with ego, populism and the desire for control.

we presented sam with a range of directions the poster could take, and he chose the one you see here. inspired by a still image from kyoshi kurosawa's film the excitement of the do-re-mi-fa girl (bumpkin soup), caspar made the poster in the berlin studio using a still image from the film, a photograph of a roman statue of a young hercules, a laptop, paper, a printer, natural light and a camera.
