Dr. Peter Gemmell |
|||||||
Peter Gemmell studied chemistry at the University of Hull, graduating with first class honours in 1980. He completed his PhD with Professor Gray's Liquid Crystals Group, on the synthesis and characterisation of liquid crystalline polymer systems. He remained at the University of Hull to carry out post-doctoral work on novel liquid crystalline cyclobutanes and, under an MOD contract, on ferroelectric liquid crystals. The MOD work was a collaborative effort involving scientists at Hull University, the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment, Malvern, and at STC, Harlow. After completion of the post-doctoral work, he joined ICI Electronics at Runcorn in 1984, working on the development of media for data storage and large area display devices, in collaboration with researchers at Manchester University's physics department. In 1988 he began work with ICI Imagedata at Brantham, formed from the merger of ICI Electronics with ICI Films' Bexford manufacturing site. He worked on the development of film media for xerography and for dye diffusion thermal transfer (D2T2) printing, which allows full colour images to be printed to photographic quality from a digital signal. He joined Dummett Copp as a technical assistant in 1992, and in 1995 qualified as a European Patent Attorney. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1996, and is authorised to represent clients at the European Community Trade Marks Office (OHIM). Peter Gemmell became a partner in 1997. He deals mainly with chemical and mechanical subject matter, and has particular expertise in organic synthesis. |
