Peter Dummett

 

Peter Dummett was educated at Rugby School, specialising in the sciences, and then at Cambridge University from where he holds Bachelor of Arts Honours degrees in Natural Sciences, majoring in Chemistry, and in Law (1961 and 1962) and a Master of Arts degree (1965). He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1966 and was admitted as a European Patent Attorney in 1978. He was admitted as a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Agents in 1990.

After graduation he worked for five years with Albright and Wilson Limited, now a Tenneco company, in the chemical field. In 1967 he joined Fisons Limited, where he worked in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, fertiliser and agrochemical fields on a worldwide basis. He was also responsible for copyright and licensing operations and led a deputation to Brazil to review government attitudes to licensing technology.

Based on his worldwide experience both as a Patent Attorney and in the commercial management of Industrial Property Rights, he left Fisons in 1981 to found the firm on which the present practice is based. In 1986, he was joined by David Copp to form Dummett Copp.

He lectures on the legal and commercial aspects of Intellectual Property to companies and universities in the UK, including Cambridge University and Templeton College, Oxford.

He speaks and reads French and has special interests in the technology of inks and adhesives.

Peter Dummett is the senior partner and also the litigation and licensing specialist within the partnership.
