David Copp |

After obtaining an Honours degree in Metallurgy from the University of Wales, David Copp joined Marks & Clerk in London as a technical assistant in 1972, and qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1976. He spent six months in 1975 working in Dusseldorf with a firm of German Patentanwälte, and acquired a good command of the German language which has been invaluable since. Most of his work at this time was for a German company involved in the design of rolling mills, extrusion presses and continuous casting plant. He became a European Patent Attorney upon the opening of the European Patent Office in 1978. Between 1979 and 1982, he worked in Johannesburg, South Africa with the firm of Spoor and Fisher and qualified there are as a Registered South African Patent Agent. A substantial amount of the work in South Africa was connected with the mining industry, an interest which has continued since with UK clients. In 1982, he returned to the UK and started business in Ipswich. In 1986 he joined Peter Dummett to found Dummett Copp. David Copp has experience in all areas of Intellectual Property Law. He is a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Agents (MITMA) and is authorised to act at the Community Trade Marks Office. David Copp handles mainly mechanical subject matter and has particular expertise in the fields of automotive engineering and mining. He has successfully tutored many candidates through the examinations (especially drafting examinations) leading to the qualification of Chartered Patent Attorney. |
