the violinist
poster
_what
poster for the short film, the violinist.
_how
producer fred winkler introduced us to writer and director katy mccarthy as she was looking for a film poster. katy had just finished her debut narrative short film, the violinist. the film makes for a thoughtful and challenging discussion around the subject of abortion, and we were immediately interested in how one would make a poster that tackled the same issues.

the short tells the story of a conservative texas state senator who reconsiders his anti-abortion views after being forcibly surgically connected to a woman; a woman whom he must keep alive with his own body for nine months. it is inspired by the essay a defense of abortion by judith jarvis thompson.

we presented a series of ideas for the poster and katy went with the one you see here.
